The Alliance for Epilepsy Research (AER) is an advocacy group founded by a grass roots effort.  It is a voice for those affected by epilepsy.

The AER has been formed to encourage and support innovative epilepsy research and to increase public awareness of epilepsy and epilepsy's impact.  Since current treatments for epilepsy are generally unsuccessful (most of those with epilepsy do not have their seizures completely controlled), new treatments and a cure for epilepsy are the targets of AER's support.  Fund raising is the primary activity of the group.

The AER was founded in 1996.  Dr. Ivan Osorio, an Epileptologist, Susan Arthurs, an airline pilot who lost her job, career and hobby to epilepsy and Dr. Rich Davis of Kansas City were all instrumental in its development and growth.  It is an all volunteer organization and is presently located in the Kansas City area.  Membership is open to those who have epilepsy, their families, epilepsy health care workers and anyone interested in helping to make changes in the world of epilepsy.

The Alliance provides the opportunity for epilepsy patients and family members to take control back from epilepsy.  By raising awareness and funds for research, they will benefit themselves as well as others.

The Alliance for Epilepsy Research is a member of Community Health Charities of Kansas and Missouri and of the Greater Kansas City Council on Philanthropy.  The Alliance for Epilepsy Research is a non-profit organization incorporated in the state of Missouri.  It is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
